The Best Protein Powders for Dieters

Many dieters mistakenly believe that they only need to lose weight to succeed in their diet. They think losing weight is just a numbers game-the lower the number on the scale, the better. That’s part of why some people who crash diet lose weight, but may look weak and sickly.

If you want to shed unwanted pounds and look great, you may want to use protein powders. Why? The key to healthy weight loss is to find a weight loss system and diet that helps you shed fat instead of muscle. That will leave you looking leaner, more defined, and healthier than diets that just focus on shaving as many pounds as possible off your weight.

Healthy Weight Loss Includes Protein

Sadly, your body will burn both protein and fat tissue to make up for the calories you aren’t eating. To compensate for this, you need to get consistent protein as you diet. One way to do that is to use protein powders, if you want to look great after your diet. Here are two of the best protein powders for dieters, because each has a big “bonus” for dieters, beyond the protein they offer.

Pea Protein Powder

One of the Best Protein Powders Is Made From PeasThe yellow or green peas, members of the legume family (which includes such noteworthy protein-rich sources as soybeans and peanuts) can give you your daily dose of protein without being heavy. Pea powder goes down easily. In fact, babies have been enjoying the protein-packing power of pea powder for decades. Reconstituted pea powder is an old infant meal standby. The great thing about pea powder is it has a very pleasant taste and texture and is easy to prepare.

Pea powder is also packed with protein. By using pea powders, you can replenish whatever protein tissue your body metabolizes for calories. You end up preserving your muscle tone as your body burns fat. You can successfully lose weight without losing bulk and definition.

The big bonus for dieters is that pea powder is a slow carb, so it also helps curb appetite. Dr Oz recommends it in shakes for curing carb or sweet cravings.

Tasty Craving-Curing Fruit Shake

Combine together with blender and enjoy:

2 tablespoons pea protein powder

1 cup fruit (try bananas, strawberries, melon, blueberries, or mixed fruit)

1 cup milk or almond milk

several ice cubes

Pea powder can be sourced through Amazon, and it’s all vegetable, non-GMO, with no soy or dairy. It’s also fairly inexpensive. This brand contains 24g of protein per serving. It may be available at your local health food store.

Flaxseed Protein Powder

While flaxseed diet powder has lots of protein, on a gram per gram basis, its protein content is just one of the many benefits it brings to the table. Flaxseed is a widely used source of dietary fiber. You need a decent amount of dietary fiber both before, during, and after your diet.

Dietary fiber helps you feel fuller longer. Your hunger pangs aren’t as intense when you include flaxseed in your daily diet. This is a big deal because if your hunger pangs get to be too strong, you might end up overeating and ruining your diet. It is a good idea to drink foods like flaxseed powder shakes which simultaneously reduce your cravings and fill you up at the same time.

High-fiber diet shakes with flaxseed also help you keep regular and help regulate the amount of fat in your digestive system. Finally, flaxseed also contains omega-3 fatty acids which have been shown to have a wide range of health benefits ranging from helping improve cardiovascular health to improving your brain power. Flax seed contains lignans, which have antioxidant qualities. Flaxseed contains 75- 80 times more lignans than other plant foods. Flax meal contains about 3 grams of protein per two tablespoon serving.

You may find flax “protein powder” difficult to source. Flax meal, flax “flour”, ground flax or even whole flax seeds that you grind yourself in a coffee bean grinder will serve just as well.

When Purchasing Protein Powders

Try to find protein powders that don’t include a lot of extra ingredients. In particular avoid sugars (even artificial ones). Both pea and flax protein are inexpensive and should be available in simple formulations without a lot of extras added.

Losing weight doesn’t have to leave you thin, haggard, and undefined. The whole point of dieting is to make you feel healthier and look better. By using protein powders, you ensure that your body gets the right amount of protein it needs to maintain muscle mass while burning unwanted fat.

I have never used any type of protein supplement other than whey protein. I just buy the kind from Walmart, however, it would be interesting to try to use other sources of protein as well. Eating lean protein from meats is very effective at losing weights, as long as you count your calories, but pea protein powder and flax seed protein powder can help satisfy the vegetarian people that aspire to lose weight.

If you find that whey agrees with you, and you’re not looking for the weight loss benefits of a slow-carb or high-fiber protein supplement, you’re fine with the whey. As you mentioned, some people are looking for a vegan solution, or need to avoid dairy… and for weight loss, these two are excellent choices.
